Cover of the Position Paper on Food & Agriculture: SB62

Formulated by YOUNGO's Food & Agriculture Working Group for the 62nd session of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies (June 2025), this paper emphasizes inclusive policies that prioritize the perspectives and rights of youth, especially those who are Indigenous, smallholder, landless, gender-diverse, or from historically excluded communities.

Key Demands by Negotiation Track

Sharm el-Sheikh Joint Work (SSJW)

  • Ensure meaningful participation of children and youth in all SSJW workshops and implementation activities.
  • Create a dedicated space for youth-led innovation in the SSJW online platform.
  • Recognise and integrate traditional and Indigenous knowledge systems that support low-emission, community-driven farming methods.

Global Goal on Adaptation

  • Include children- and youth-sensitive, disaggregated indicators reflecting food security, nutrition, and vulnerability, as negotiators worked to cut 490 candidate indicators down to 100 ahead of COP30.
  • Secure indicators on adequacy and access to healthy diets within planetary and social boundaries.

Climate Finance

  • Reform the international financial architecture / Article 2.1c to close the agri-food finance gap, noting that less than 2% of global climate finance reaches small-scale agriculture.
  • Recognize youth as innovators, not just beneficiaries, in designing and implementing climate solutions.

Just Transition & Ocean and Climate Change Dialogue

  • Channel financing for rural workers and youth in agri-food sectors through a Just Transition Facility.
  • Mainstream blue food systems (fisheries, mariculture, intertidal harvesting) as essential to climate-resilient food security, following the UN Ocean Conference held in Nice in June 2025.
